Bowie wrote All The Young Dudes in 1972 and he gave the song to Mott The Hoople in a bid to keep them from breaking up. It became a massive hit for Mott and has been covered many times since, including by Bowie himself.

Pet Shop Boys’ special set also featured orchestral takes on their classic Left To My Own Devices and new track Loneliness, watched in its entirety here can be watched in its entirety here.

Loneliness was the first single to be taken from the band’s new album, Nonetheless, due on 26 April via Parlophone. It will be the duo’s first album since 2020’s Hotspot. It sees them work with James Ford on production for the first time.

“We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human,” Pet Shop Boys said in a statement. “From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”

They added: “We’re very excited to release this new album. Its 10 tracks are the strongest indicators of where we are today. Like much of our music it’s very reflective. It was great to work with James Ford, who we think has brought new elements to our music.”
