Pet Shop Boys Announce ‘Relentless’ 30th Anniversary Edition
Pet Shop Boys have announced a special, limited edition reissue of Relentless to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary. Relentless will be released in a variety of formats, including a limited-edition yellow vinyl complete with new artwork, available to buy exclusively via the Pet Shop Boys’ store, as well as a CD and an online digital release. All are available from 20 October 2023 via Parlophone and can be pre-ordered now
Pet Shop Boys’ fifth studio album Very was released in September 1993 to massive acclaim and success. The album was preceded by the Top 10 singles Can You Forgive Her? (No 7) and Go West (No 2), which remain among the duo’s most popular songs. Very charted at No 1 in the UK and all five singles entered the UK Top 20.
A 2CD limited edition of the album, Very Relentless was also released, which included Relentless, a six-track dance album. Relentless was also released as a standalone vinyl set, limited to just 500 copies, with the six tracks spread over three 12” singles, pressed on pink, yellow and blue vinyl. This swiftly became one of the Pet Shop Boys’ most sought-after releases.
The six tracks on Relentless have not been available since the original release.
Pet Shop Boys commented: “This album was an experiment for us 30 years ago with its six new extended dance tracks. We’re very proud of it and delighted it’s now getting the stand-alone release it deserves.”
At the time of release, Chris Lowe said, “I had this studio in the country I was writing a lot of dance music which wouldn’t work as traditional verse-chorus pop music. I was writing stuff knowing that it wasn’t going to be on Very, some of which became Relentless.”
