Idiot Country 2 is the extended 12” mix of the song which opened the band’s highly-acclaimed self-titled debut album, first issued by Factory Records on 27 May 1991 in the wake of the band’s second hit single, Get The Message. Spurred on by the buzz surrounding it, the album performed strongly in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Going gold as it reached No.2 in the UK, it also moved significant numbers in the US and eventually sold well over a million copies worldwide.

Despite its title, Idiot Country 2 is one of Electronic’s most dancefloor-friendly tracks; a sleek electro-pop song accentuated by stabs of funky guitar and breathy vocals from Bernard Sumner.

Electronic’s debut album was rapturously-received by the critics. Melody Maker gushed that it was “one of the greatest albums ever made”, while Vox concluded that Electronic represented “a 100 per cent pure distillation of Marr and Sumner’s respective talents… it breaks no new ground, but simply achieves perfection.”

First released on CD in 2006, Get the Message: The Best Of Electronic is the career spanning collection from the Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner band who released a string of critically acclaimed hits including their debut single Getting Away With It, Get The Message, Disappointed and Feel Every Beat.

This compilation captures the very essence of their ground-breaking sound, blending Marr’s distinctive guitar work with Sumner’s vocals and guest features from Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant (Getting Away With It, Disappointed) and Kraftwerk’s Karl Bartos (For You, Imitation Of Life).
