Green Day have announced that they are to release the two 7″ single set, Green Day: The BBC Sessions, exclusively to subscribers to their Oakland Coffee service.

A statement from the band on the Oakland Coffee site said: “These exclusive records were made just for the Oakland Coffee community and have never been released in physical format before! Part 1 is a platinum white 7” vinyl with live recordings of 2000 Light Years Away and She! Part 2, a deep purple 7” (chosen personally by the World’s Most Dangerous Drummer, Mr. Tre Cool), comes with live recordings of Basket Case & When I Come Around!”

“Over the years we’ve always looked forward to doing the BBC sessions,” Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement. “All of our favourite artists have done them. We knew these recordings would come out one day and be something special.” Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong added: “Oftentimes I think the BBC session recordings are better than the originals.”

Green Day have been busy of late. Back in September they followed the US leg of their Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer by releasing their cover version of KISS’ Rock And Roll All Nite, which had become a staple of their setlist on the tour. The band said: ““Even though the Hella Mega Tour is over (for now), we want to keep partying every day. Which is why we’re dropping our live version of Rock And Roll All Nite right here, right now!!”

The three bands are set to go back out on the road together for European dates next summer:
