Dua Lipa Will Headline Elton John’s Annual AIDS Foundation Oscar Party
Dua Lipa will headline Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation Oscars pre-party this year, on 25th April with Neil Patrick Harris hosting.
The party, which has taken place every year since it was set up in 1992, will raise funds for young people at risk and currently living with HIV around the world.
The hour long event, which usually is a private affair, will be livestreamed at four different times according to the braodcasting times of the Academy Awards in different world regions. In North America it will air at 7pm EST on the 25th April, while in Europe and the UK it will be broadcast at 7pm on April 26th.
In a statement confirming Dua Lipa’s headline spot, Elton John said:
“This year, we are bringing our Oscar Party into people’s homes for the first time virtually for an unforgettable evening with David (Furnish), myself, our dear friend Neil Patrick Harris and the incredible Dua Lipa plus many fabulous surprise names.
“Now more than ever, we need to ensure that one pandemic does not override another, and we cannot forget the 38 million people living with HIV globally who need our care, love and support so we hope everyone joins us for this special one of a kind Oscar pre-party.”
Elton John also shared the news on his Instagram, with an Instagram live video with his husband, David Furnish, and the pair chatted to Dua Lipa.
It is their 29th Oscar party and it will be virtual. As John says in the video “usually have about 900 people who attend the Oscar party, this year we are hoping there will be many, many people who can attend the party virtually.”
As Elton John acknowledged when he chatted to her, “you are without question the hottest-selling artist in the world right now without a shadow of a doubt.”
He also made mention of her earlier success, winning a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia.
They broke the news about Dua Lipa’s headline spot at the party, with Dua Lipa revealing the secret. So far the video has over 531,000 views.
Dua Lipa and Elton John were already familiar with each other, with Elton John having made a guest appearance as part of Dua Lipa’s ‘Studio 2054’ virtual event, which broke livestreaming records, selling roughly 263,264 tickets across ticketing platforms.
Tickets for the Oscar Party can be purchased here and will be hosted by Elton John, David Furnish and Neil Patrick Harris. Dua Lipa is the special guest performer and the event will also also welcome on-screen appearances from top actors, musicians, entertainers, and philanthropic figures all to raise money for the AIDS epidemic.
