Burna Boy Announces New Album, Shares ‘Big 7’: Watch
Burna Boy has announced his next album. I Told Them…, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist’s follow up to 2022’s Love, Damini, arrives on 24 August via Spaceship/Bad Habit/Atlantic Records.
Burna Boy also shared an album trailer and a leading single, Big 7, complete with a Benny Bloom-directed video featuring the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, Busta Rhymes, Junior Mafia, and actor Shameik Moore. Check out both below. In the album trailer, the star says of his rise to fame, “I guarantee you there’s nothing happening now that I didn’t tell them in 2013, I’ve been saying this is gonna happen.”
“‘Big 7’ is a melodic tribute to embracing new heights in my musical journey,” said Burna Boy in a statement. “The title represents a symbolic aspiration to reach greater horizons, with the number seven embodying an attainable and harmonious growth.”
The past 18 months have seen Burna Boy’s meteoric rise from an Afrobeats powerhouse to a global superstar, as evidenced by his rapidly growing touring achievements. In April 2022, the Grammy winner became the first Nigerian artist to sell out Madison Square Garden, with over 30,000 tickets sold. Subsequently, he embarked on his first complete U.S. arena tour, captivating nearly 15,000 fans each night across 10 dates. In 2023, in addition to his landmark US stadium dates, Burna Boy also sold out shows in Paris and the Netherlands.
He also made history with a show on 3 June at London Stadium. The concert marked the first time an African artist headlined a stadium show in the UK, Burna Boy was joined by British music stars Stormzy, J Hus and Dave, as well as the Jamaican singer Popcaan.
