AC/DC have launched a new limited edition whiskey with Ballantine’s Scotch whiskey. The collaboration is part of the Scottish distillers’ True Music Icons range and celebrates the band’s 50th anniversary.

Ballantine’s said in an official statement, “With AC/DC’s unwavering commitment to staying true to their roots aligning with Ballantine’s ethos of celebrating self-expression, it was a natural fit for the Scotch whiskey to pay tribute to this iconic band in its 50th anniversary year.”

The whiskey bottle design features the band’s thunderbolt logo in neon red – a tribute to their 2020 album, Power Up.

Ballantine’s have also named a cocktail in the band’s honour, the Dark and Thunderstruck, which they described as “a twist on the classic Kentucky Mule Whisky cocktail”.

AC/DC have close links to Scotland, with lead guitarist Angus Young and his late elder brother Malcolm being born in Glasgow and late singer Bon Scott in the town of Forfar.

Over the past weekend, the band performed at the Power Trip festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California – home of the Coachella festival. Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden and Metallica also appeared at the festival.

Taking to the stage on Saturday (October 7) at the Empire Polo Club, the rock band’s line-up included classic members Brian Johnson, Angus Young and Cliff Williams, alongside Stevie Young on rhythm guitar and drummer Matt Laug. The show marked the first time vocalist Johnson had performed with the group since September 2016 in Philadelphia, the last date of the ‘Rock Or Bust’ world tour.

The legendary rockers performed a 24-song set, opening with If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) for the first time. The show also included performances of AC/DC classics Highway To Hell, Thunderstruck, You Shook Me All Night Long, Whole Lotta Rosie and Black In Black.

Additionally, the group also performed live debuts of Demon Fire and Shot In The Dark from Power Up.
