AC/DC have left fans waiting for the announcement of a possible new album, after cryptic press adverts appeared in a host of British local newspapers. Papers in Teeside, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham ran adverts that showed a stage set with amps, guitars and drums, bearing the famous AC/DC lightning bolt logo, which read “Are You Ready. PWR/UP”. A link to a new subdomain of the AC/DC site: pwrup.acdc.com was also featured and has what looks to be five buttons – which include a link to the store, and a link to sign up for news, and three more that are currently crossed out with a yellow and black tape design.

In Australia, the same image appeared on a poster outside leas-guitarist Angus Young’s old high school in south-west Sydney- Ashfield Boys High School, while fans on social media were treated to a video of an LED light of their iconic lightning bolt logo being turned on while guitar amps crackled in the background, and Twitter users discovered that typing #PWRUP added a lightning bolt emoji to their tweets.

These updates come following confirmation from the band on 30 September that the line-up for the group is lead guitarist Angus Young, vocalist Brian Johnson, bassist Cliff Williams, drummer Phil Rudd and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young. Brian Johnson, who had been the band’s frontman since 1980, left in 2016 after experiencing hearing loss, but has returned. Bassist Cliff Williams comes out of retirement to rejoin the band, having officially left in 2017. A photo of the reunited band can be seen on their Twitter account below.

AC/DC have been largely quiet in recent times, except for releasing the 40th anniversary reissues of Highway To Hell in 2019 and the 40th anniversary reissue of Back In Black earlier this year. Their last studio album, Rock Or Bust was released in 2014, so a new album would mark a welcome return for Australia’s finest heavy rockers. Fans are speculating that “PWR/UP” is the name of their next studio album. Whether that’s correct and whether it is due imminently or not remains to be seen, but there have certainly been enough teasers to keep fans guessing as what AC/DC are intending to share with them.
