Tori Amos, Blondie and Mac DeMarco are among the artists set to take part in the first ever Band Shirt Day next month.

The new fundraising event will take place on 16 September, bringing artists together to donate proceeds from their merchandise sales to charities of their choice.

A statement on the event’s website reads: “Band Shirt Day is a global fundraising initiative, where artists come together for a single day to sell merchandise on their official sales channels and donate proceeds to charitable organisations of their choice.”

The guide to participating on the Band Shirt Day site reads: “Purchase a shirt from your favorite participating artist’s merch store.

“Wear your favorite band shirt! You can celebrate Band Shirt Day in your workplace, school, or social group. See if you can get your coworkers, classmates, and friends to join. Invite everyone you know to wear their band t-shirt and help raise funds.

“Post your band shirt selfie to social media using #bandshirtday. Be sure to tag @bandshirtday and @merchfriendsorg.

“Organize or attend an event for Band Shirt day. Consider hosting a local show, music trivia, or meet up in your area to celebrate.

“Band Shirt Day is easy to do and is a great way to create engagement with artists and have fun with classmates, friends, and staff while raising funds for worthy causes. Band tees have a story, and on Band Shirt Day everyone has a chance to tell it.”

As well as Tori Amos, Blondie and Mac De Marco, other acts taking part include A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Black Pumas, Flipper, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Parquet Courts, Real Friends, SPELLING, The Bobby Lees, The Tragically Hip, Urge Overkill and many more.
