Tony Hadley Confirmed For 2023 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival
Tony Hadley is set play at Cork City Hall on Saturday, 28 October, as part of the annual Guinness Cork Jazz Festival in the southern Irish city.
The former Spandau Ballet frontman will join the likes of Macy Gray, Corienne Bailey Rae, Morcheeba, Matthew Halsall and Grammy winner Kurt Elling at this year’s event, which takes place over the October bank holiday weekend (Thursday, 26 October to Monday, 30 October 2023).
It will be the Hadley’s first time performing in Cork City, with support coming from Spring Break, who promise an ‘80s show packed with classics. Tickets are available on Thursday, July 6 at 10AM.
The news of Hadley’s show in Cork comes after the singer announced a new solo tour of the UK. The Big Swing Tour will hit concert halls across the UK throughout March 2024, with Hadley performing the hits of jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra as well as his own classics.
Hadley said in a statement, “My love of swing music began when I was very young. The preparation for Sunday lunch was never without the classic sounds of Sinatra, Bennett and many more…
“Then years later, when we formed our first band at school which eventually would become Spandau Ballet, I was reminded by my parents that although I loved punk rock, if I was serious about pursuing a career as a professional singer, never to forget the classic jazz vocalists. So there I was listening to the Sex Pistols and The Clash alongside Tony Bennett and Jack Jones!”
Hadley, who will be joined by the Fabulous The Band alongside a full brass section for the swinging shows, added: “I’ve always loved performing live, but this swing tour is totally different from our normal rock shows! I want audiences to come and enjoy a night of amazing songs from an incredible era of music alongside some great songs from my own repertoire.”
