Sigur Rós Announce Tour With Wordless Music Orchestra
Sigur Rós have announced a US tour with the Wordless Music Orchestra. The Icelandic band and 41-piece orchestral ensemble will bring their latest album, ÁTTA, and more to life at concerts in September and October.
The tour follows Sigur Rós’ previous shows with the Wordless Music Orchestra in summer 2023. They’ll perform eight dates across the US beginning in Detroit on 19 September. They’ll then continue the tour with dates in Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Durham, Miami, and Nashville, before concluding the trek in Austin on 4 October.
A ticket pre-sale for Sigur Rós’ 2024 tour will begin Thursday 7 March. Tickets will then go on-sale for the general public on Friday 8 March via Ticketmaster.
ÁTTA was recorded alongside The London Contemporary Orchestra at Abbey Road studios, with additional sesssions at the band’s own Sundlaugin studio in Iceland and various studios throughout the States ÁTTA was Sigur Rós’ first album in nearly a decade, as well as their first new music since the return of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson in 2022.
In a press release for the album, singer Jónsi said that the band found themselves “just wanting to have minimal drums and for the music to be really sparse, floaty and beautiful.”
“We’re getting older and more cynical so I just wanted to move us so that we felt something!” Jónsi added. “We wanted to allow ourselves to be a bit dramatic and go far with these arrangements,” Sveinsson continued. “The world needs that right now. It’s hard to describe, but for me everything is always open to interpretation. People can think and feel how they want.”
