Lady Gaga performed the US national anthem at the inauguration of Joe Biden at today’s ceremony in Washington DC.

Gaga sang the Star Spangled Banner ahead of Biden being sworn in at the US Capitol.

It marks an important day for democracy with Biden elected as the 46th President of the United States, while Kamala Harris becomes the first female Vice President, as well as the first Black woman and the first Asian-American to hold office.

The inauguration was attended by previous presidents including Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton. While Donald Trump refused to stay for the event, the previous Vice President Mike Pence was in attendance.

Lady Gaga was accompanied by the United States Marine Band when she performed the Star Spangled Banner, which can be watched below.

Lady Gaga has been an outspoken supporter of Joe Biden, performing at his final campaign rally in November in Pittsburgh, where she perfomed Shallow and Yoü And I.

Lady Gaga took to Twitter yesterday (19th November) to share her views on the inauguration: “A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol.”

Jennifer Lopez also performed, singing a medley of This Land Is Your Land, as well as America The Beautiful, while she also added the lines, “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”, in Spanish.

Following President Biden’s speech, country star Garth Brooks performed a rendition of Amazing Grace.

Actor Tom Hanks will also host a primetime TV special featuring performances from Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, and Jon Bon Jovi. The special show, Celebrating America, will run for 90 minutes and will be broadcast live on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC from 8:30–10:00 PM EST and PST.
