Nile Rodgers, Nirvana, The Supremes, and Slick Rick are among the artists to be honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2023 Grammys. Ma Rainey, Bobby McFerrin, and Heart’s Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson are also 2023 recipients.

The Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards Ceremony will take place on 4 February at Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, a day before the main Grammy Awards ceremony, and will also honour the Trustees Award recipients (Henry Diltz, Ellis Marsalis, and Jim Stewart), the Technical Grammy recipients (the Audio Engineering Society and Dr Andy Hildebrand), and the winner of Best Song for Social Change, which has not yet been revealed.

Recently the former Chic man revealed that he’s been in the studio with Coldplay working on new music.

Speaking to The Sun’s Bizarre column, Rodgers enthused, “What was great working with Coldplay is that we’re all in the room together and it’s sort of like a spiritual thing,” he said, adding that he “had a blast” with the band.

“It’s like they walk in and they say, ‘Do you want to join the circle or not?’” he said. “I’m an old hippie, you’re speaking my language. Let’s go.”

Last year Rodgers was interviewed by Rolling Stone about his favourite dance songs. When asked what makes a good dance song, Rodgers replied, ““I think if the combination of ingredients of a song sparks a primal response, like it makes people want to dance — they don’t need to know what the song is about or anything like that, just the groove or the vibe — that’s what makes a great dance song. It’s just that thing that just hits you.

Among his picks was Prince‘s Let’s Go Crazy, about which Rodgers said, “I’ve played this with him. That was, wow, the night of my life. We had a blast.”
