Mastodon Share New Film ‘The Making Of Hushed & Grim’: Watch
Mastodon have released a feature-length documentary giving fans a look at the making of their recent eighth album, Hushed And Grim, out now on Reprise.
A statement reads: “The Making Of Hushed & Grim is a documentary that chronicles iconic, GRAMMY® Award-winning band Mastodon’s critically acclaimed 9th Studio album. The 90 minute film is an intimate look at the bands creative process, which was largely influenced by the untimely death of the bands long time friend and manager, Nick John. The film also intertwines comedic skits that showcase the bands, lighter more humorous dynamic.”
The Making Of Hushed And Grim is dedicated to Nick John, Mastodon’s longtime manager and close friend, who died from cancer in 2018. As it’s made clear in the film, much of the album’s creative process was inspired by John’s memory. “Obviously, having him leave this Earth was the worst thing our band has experienced, as a collective unit,” bassist Troy Sanders states at the beginning of the documentary.
A press release for the album read, “For as much as Hushed And Grim is steeped in one of the darkest periods of the band’s career, its light shines through in a fully realized manifestation of not only everything Mastodon was, but everything Mastodon can be — and more.”
This week, Mastodon returned to the road, accompanying Ghost on their North American headline tour. Remaining tour dates below:
