Kate Bush has seen downloads and streams of Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) soar after the song was used in Stranger Things. The 1985 hit single from Kate’s Hounds Of Love album is currently No 1 on the iTunes chart.

It has also experienced a 153 per cent surge in streams on Spotify, making it her most popular song on the streaming service. It was described as “the biggest gainer on the Global Spotify chart” by Spotify.

The song first appears in the fourth season premiere episode and plays a significant role in Max’s (Sadie Sink) story.

Originally, when the track was released in 1985, it entered the UK Singles Chart at No 9 and eventually peaked at No 3. It also made an impact across the Atlantic, reaching the Top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

Stranger Things star Winona Ryder was asked by USA Today about her feelings on Kate Bush after the actress wore a T-shirt featuring the singer to the season premiere. Ryder said, “I’ve been obsessed with her since I was a little girl. I’ve also for the last seven years been dropping hints on set, wearing my Kate Bush T-shirts.

“I don’t know if you did this, but in my school you had to dress down for PE, and sometimes I just wouldn’t. I’d just sit there with my headphones listening to her. She’s a hero of mine.”

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) features on the first part of the Stranger Things season four soundtrack, available to stream now.
