The Flaming Lips have announced rescheduled UK live dates for Summer 2022. The Oklahoma-based psychedelic rock favourites will be returning to the stage for a huge worldwide tour, scheduled to begin in the US this summer with dates extending into next year. The band’s rescheduled UK dates come at the end of the tour in May and June 2022.

Despite the effects of the worldwide pandemic on musicians, The Flaming Lips have managed to keep busy. Back in January, they staged a pair of “Space Bubble” gigs in Oklahoma, ensuring that social distancing was maintained by placing both the band and audience inside individual inflatable balls. At the time, frontman Wayne Coyne spoke to BBC News about the gigs, suggesting, “It’s absurd… but we’re the only band in the world that would probably embrace this.”

Meanwhile, the band recently gave fans a taster of what to expect from their upcoming shows with a typically cosmic performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live of Will You Return/When You Come Down from last year’s acclaimed album, American Head.

Over the years, fans of the group have learnt to expect the unexpected from a Flaming Lips show, with frontman Wayne Coyne arriving onstage while performing atop a giant unicorn or rolling over the audience in a Zorb ball amid explosions of confetti and glitter, making for an unmissable live experience. Fans will be hoping that their enforced time off from touring has inspired similarly off the wall ideas.

The Flaming Lips UK live dates 2022:

Wednesday 25th May 2022 – Leeds – Stylus
Thursday 26th May 2022 – Liverpool – Invisible Wind Factory
Monday 30th May 2022 – Aylesbury – Waterside Theatre
Wednesday 1st June 2022 – Bexhill – De La Warr Pavilion
Thursday 2nd June 2022 – London – 02 Forum Kentish Town
