Dua Lipa has teamed up with Elton John on Cold Heart, a mash-up created by Pnau, the Australian electronic music outfit of Peter Mayes and brothers Nick and Sam Littlemore. The single, released today (13 August) uses Elton’s 1972 hit Rocket Man and his 1989 UK No 1 single Sacrifice (from where the song gets its new title). Elton takes the Sacrifice verse lyrics while Dua Lipa sings the iconic chorus to Rocket Man over a slinky groove. The single comes complete with a music video featuring an animated Dua Lipa and Elton John performing alongside stop-motion animated dancers in outer space.

Dua took to social media to pay tribute to her collaborator: “Elton you are my friend and my hero and I never thought i’d be able to ever say that in a sentence. Thank you for all your love and support. Grateful to make music with you in this life.” Meanwhile, Elton shared the love, tweeting: “This track is the culmination of a beautiful friendship with you Dua and I’m so happy we can now share it – I hope you all love it!”

This isn’t the first time Dua and Elton have collaborated, earlier this year, they teamed up for a performance at Elton’s annual Oscar viewing party. The pair took turns singing one another’s songs. This included Elton’s track, Bennie & The Jets and Dua’s Love Again. And John featured on Lipa’s hugely successful Studio 2054 livestream last November, with the pair having participated in a joint Instagram session the previous month.
