Brandi Carlile was the musical guest on the 10 December episode of Saturday Night Live. The Steve Martin and Martin Short–hosted episode saw Carlile perform the In These Silent Days track You and Me On The Rock with Lucius and The Story, the title track from her second album, released in 2007. Watch the performances below.

Carlile’s most recent album, In These Silent Days, is up for Album of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Carlile also received nominations for Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, Best Americana Album, and more. She scored five nominations at the 2022 Grammys and played Right On Time during the ceremony.

The singer recently spoke to the Wall Street Journal about her hugely successful year, in which she released an acclaimed autobiography and performed with two heroes – Joni Mitchell and Elton John. “The words ‘life affirming’ keep going through my head”, said Carlile. “Because that’s exactly what it was. It is life affirming to know that you’ve done it, and that the people that you’ve chosen as a beacon of light for yourself are giving you this gentle nod, saying, ‘You did it.’ But that’s the beauty of having this moment in my 40s and not in my 20s. I get to experience these moments, calm my heart, and I can control myself. I can feel my feet on the ground and be there in the moment. I didn’t know how to do that in my 20s and 30s, so I love having this latter-day moment, these latter-day affirmations.”

When asked what was next for 2023, Carlile reflected, “I need to take a beat and think about maybe writing a song again. Because I haven’t written songs in a really long time. I need to get into a creative head space again, because I’ve been working really hard, being on the road and working with my band and just being a little bit recklessly nonstop. So, I’m going to take a minute and reflect on all this beautiful stuff that’s gone down in the last year.”
